Most plastic produce bags take hundreds of years to break down and don't actually ever biodegrade. They photo-degrade, which means they break down into smaller and smaller toxic bits of micro-plastic which get mistaken for food by marine animals.
Some grocery stores do have biodegradable or compostable produce bags, but they are few and far between.
These organic cotton mesh produce bags are a great (and trendy) replacement for plastic produce bags because they're reusable, washable, durable and allow your produce to breathe.
They can be used for any thing that's big enough to not slip through the mesh.
